Do the Mind Consciousness and the Manas Serve as Mutual Conditions for Each Other?

When the sense faculty and the sense object come into contact, consciousness arises. When the three—faculty, object, and consciousness—converge in contact, the mind consciousness discerns the mental sense-object realm, and the manas makes the overall decision based on this. Since the mind consciousness and the manas are in mutual contact, they must necessarily take each other as condition and mutually know each other's mind, so that the dharma can continue to operate and there can be the creation of bodily, verbal, and mental actions. If the mind consciousness and the manas do not take each other as condition, the mind consciousness cannot operate; its arising would be useless, and thereafter the manas would never again decide to let the mind consciousness arise. The very purpose of the mind consciousness's arising is to cooperate with and serve the needs of the manas. Of course, as soon as the mind consciousness is born, it knows what the manas wants it to do, and thus it will spontaneously and consciously act according to the manas's wishes. In the process, it inevitably offers some opinions and suggestions, and sometimes even has its own ideas that are inconsistent with the manas's wishes; then there is internal conflict, and when encountering matters, it cannot make a decision.
