Explanation: The Buddha further instructed: Furthermore, a bhikṣu should deliberate and contemplate the complete cessation of suffering, reaching the ultimate end of suffering. He should then continue to deliberate and contemplate: by what causes and conditions does contact arise? From the aggregation of what dharma is it produced? After what dharma comes into existence is it brought forth? Upon what dharma making contact is it born? At this time one should know that contact arises due to the causes and conditions of the six sense bases (ṣaḍāyatana); it appears from the aggregation of the six sense bases; the arising of the six sense bases leads to the appearance of contact; and it is when the six sense bases make contact that contact is produced. When the six sense bases cease without remainder, contact ceases. Bhikṣus should truly understand the path of the cessation of the six sense bases that they themselves practice, and cultivate the path-oriented dharma and the secondary dharmas that lead toward the complete cessation of suffering. This is called a bhikṣu turning toward the complete cessation of suffering, able to reach the ultimate end of suffering.
