Defiled seeds are the seeds left behind by karmic actions committed with a defiled mind. When these seeds mature, sentient beings receive evil retribution, and once the retribution is exhausted, the seeds are eliminated. If one repents of defiled karma, once the mind transforms to purity, the defiled seeds will also be eliminated, and in future lives one will not receive evil retribution or will receive less of it; therefore defiled seeds can be eliminated. If ignorance is gradually extinguished, the mind will become increasingly pure, luminosity will gradually increase, and more and more defiled seeds will be eliminated, until they are completely exhausted. When the mind is ultimately pure without remainder, one becomes a Buddha. As ignorance grows ever thinner and luminosity grows ever more substantial, the defiled becomes ever less, and pure wholesome karma becomes ever more abundant, until in the end there is only pure karma and seeds, with no defiled karma or seeds remaining.
