Discourse on the Sutra of the Gathering of Father and Son (169)

Worldly Desires Are Futile and Harmful

Since the realms of the five desires and six dusts are as unreal as dreams, we should focus our minds on spiritual cultivation. Any effort directed toward the six dusts is ultimately futile, serving only to satisfy the cravings of the illusory mind. In essence, such desires are unnecessary, for they compel us to engage in meaningless pursuits and create negative karma. Without these worldly desires, we would become normal individuals—awakened beings, purified in spirit, free from karmic obstacles and afflictions.
