What Is Turning the Light Around?

Question: May I ask, is "turning the light around and shining back" (huiguang fanzhao) the same as awareness? Sometimes there is awareness, but I have not paid attention to where it comes from and where it goes. It seems unable to unfold.

Answer: It is awareness; it is the power of introspection (pratyavekṣā-bala), the phenomenon observed by the mind consciousness's self-validating cognition (svasaṃvedana) and self-cognition (svasaṃvitti).
