Seeing Is Believing, Hearing Is Deceiving

Consciousness tells the manas ten thousand times that the bowl of water is poisoned—could the manas resolutely refrain from drinking it when parched with thirst? If the manas personally sees poison in that bowl of water yet is parched with thirst, would it still desire to drink?

Is imparted knowledge the same as personally verified truth? Seeing is believing, while hearing may be deceiving—is this not the principle, as the saying goes?
