At the moment of enlightenment, it is also when the solitary consciousness realizes the eighth consciousness, the Tathagatagarbha, without the participation of the five consciousnesses in witnessing it. Although the consciousness realizes the Tathagatagarbha while the eye consciousness sees forms, the ear consciousness hears sounds, and the nose consciousness smells scents, the operational manifestations of the Tathagatagarbha can only be observed by the consciousness alone. The operational manifestations of the Tathagatagarbha do not belong to the realm of the five dusts and are unrelated to the five dusts; therefore, the five consciousnesses cannot perceive them.
