There are many ways and methods for cultivating meditative concentration

Everyone's methods of cultivating meditative concentration (samādhi) differ. First, this is because people's spiritual faculties (indriya) differ; second, it is because meditative concentration comes from many sources—any method can lead to entering samādhi. For some people, when they contemplate the meaning of the Dharma, their meditative concentration disappears and their minds become scattered; whereas for others, when they contemplate the meaning of the Dharma, their power of concentration arises very quickly, and their meditative concentration is also deep. The latter rely on wisdom to guide their meditative concentration, prompting its arising and deepening, rather than relying solely on sitting meditation to induce it. Wisdom is the hand that parts the clouds to reveal the light: using wisdom, one directs the mind toward the Dharma meaning being contemplated, contemplating it with single-minded focus, and meditative concentration arises, uniting concentration and wisdom. And the equal cultivation of Samādhi and Prajñā is the easiest way to give rise to meditative absorption (samādhi) and attain the fruit of liberation.

In the course of practice, one should be good at discovering one's own strengths and advantages, playing to one's strengths and avoiding one's weaknesses; then one's practice will advance quickly. Those with good wisdom need not start contemplation from the four foundations of mindfulness like everyone else, nor begin cultivation with the contemplation of the white bones, endlessly groping for a path of practice. One can devise a unique method of practice suited to oneself. As long as one finds that one makes rapid progress following this approach, then one should persist in it. After all, there are countless paths of practice, and spiritual faculties vary greatly, so it is impossible for everyone to practice in exactly the same way.
