All is Created by the Mind

Original text of the "Chapter on Pure Conduct" of the Avataṃsaka Sūtra (Mahāvaipulya Buddhāvataṃsaka Sūtra): 若诸菩萨善用其心，则获一切胜妙功德。

This passage shows that all dharmas are mind-only, only the three transformative agencies of consciousness (parināma), created by mind alone—the three transformative agencies of consciousness create in combination. When the seventh consciousness's deluded mind is wholesome, the fruit is wholesome; when the mind is evil, the fruit is evil; when the mind is superior, the fruit is superior; the fruit is generated from the karmic seeds within the tathāgatagarbha. Therefore, cultivation is the cultivation of the mind; cultivation that does not cultivate the mind is not true cultivation.
