Yogācārabhūmi-śāstra: Volume 34 (28)

How to observe the impermanent nature of the changing states of water? At one time, one sees rivers, streams, ponds, springs, wells, and the like, with waves surging and overflowing, sweet waters brimming full. At another time, one sees all of them dried up and utterly exhausted. Having observed this, one then thinks thus: Such conditioned phenomena are indeed impermanent by nature. The rest is as previously mentioned.

How to observe the impermanent nature of the changing states of karmic activities? At one time, one sees various pursuits such as hunting, herding, farming, crafts, proper discourse, shipping, and other activities all flourishing. At another time, one sees all those undertakings in decline and decay. Having observed this, one then thinks thus: Such conditioned phenomena are indeed impermanent by nature. The rest is as previously mentioned.
