Original text: 云何观察香鬘涂饰所有变异无常之性。谓先观见种种香鬘。鲜荣芬馥。后时见彼萎悴臭烂。见此事已。便作是念。如是诸行。其性无常。余如前说。云何观察资具变异无常之性。谓观见彼未造已造。成满破坏。前后变异。见此事已。便作是念。如是诸行。其性无常。余如前说。

Explanation: How does one observe the impermanent nature of change in incense, garlands, and unguents (gandha-mālya-vilepana-vastu)? One presently sees various kinds of fragrant garlands, fresh, flourishing, and full of fragrance; later, one sees those garlands withered, broken, rotten, and foul. Having seen these phenomena, one then has this thought: such volitional formations are truly impermanent in nature. How does one observe the impermanent nature of change in livelihood necessities (jīvita-pariskāra-vastu)? One observes that livelihood necessities were previously not yet made, then later were crafted; after being used, they were destroyed, undergoing constant change from before to after. Having observed these phenomena, one then has this thought: such volitional formations are truly impermanent in nature.
