Yogācārabhūmi Śāstra, Fascicle Thirty-Four (85)

Original text:

Explanation: From this vajra-like samādhi onward, the dausthulya seeds of all categories of afflictions are severed forever without interruption; the mind is ultimately liberated from all afflictions, attaining ultimate purity of the gotra. At the very moment all afflictions are utterly exhausted, the worldly knowledge of exhaustion (kṣaya-jñāna) arises; because the causes—the afflictions—have been exhausted, the future fruit of suffering will never again arise. Simultaneously with the exhaustion of afflictions, the knowledge of non-arising regarding the world of the five aggregates arises. At that time, the third-fruit practitioner becomes an arhat of the fourth fruit: all outflows are exhausted, what was to be done has been done, there is no more future existence, the bonds of the three realms are exhausted, the sacred teachings of the Tathāgata have been perfectly carried out, and the mind is well liberated.

The arhat of the fourth fruit possesses the uninterrupted knowledge of exhaustion and the knowledge of non-arising. The uninterrupted knowledge of exhaustion refers to the ability to exhaust all afflictions of the world without interruption, to extinguish all suffering of the world of the three realms, and to know how to escape from the world of the three realms and attain liberation—such wisdom is called the uninterrupted knowledge of exhaustion. The knowledge of non-arising refers to realizing that the world of the five aggregates is suffering, empty, impermanent, and non-self, understanding that the world of the five aggregates is illusory, and therefore non-arising and unreal—such wisdom is called the knowledge of non-arising.
