Liturgy of Buddha Worship and Confession

Disciple [Name], from beginningless time until this present life, has destroyed the Triple Gem and become an icchantika. Now, before the Triple Gem of the ten directions and the beings of the six realms, I sincerely repent of the sins of the three periods. If there are present sins of the ten evils committed by body, speech, and mind, may they never arise again, throughout all future time. If there are future sins of the ten evils to be committed by body, speech, and mind, may they never arise, throughout all future time. If there are past sins of the ten evils committed by body, speech, and mind, may they never arise, throughout all future time.

I pray that the Buddhas of the ten directions and three times, with great compassion, pity and regard me. I dwell in samsara without refuge, constantly unaware in the long night of birth and death. As an ordinary being, I am bound by all fetters; my deluded mind is inverted and constantly grasping. I dwell within the burning house of the triple realm, deludedly stained by the six dusts with no protection. I was born into a poor and lowly family, lacking freedom and constantly suffering. I was born into a family of wrong views, creating sins relying on evil companions.

I pray that all Buddhas, the Great Compassionate Ones, pity, protect, and remember me as their own child. With this single repentance, I will not create sins again; the Tathagatas of the three times shall bear witness, bestowing upon me the Bodhisattva’s three sets of precepts. I vow to uphold them steadfastly without regression, diligently practice to liberate suffering beings, and strive to liberate others before attaining liberation myself, ceaselessly throughout all future time.

I beseech all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the ten directions and three times to empower me: may my evil karma be eradicated, may my virtuous roots increase, and may they bestow upon me the Bodhisattva’s three sets of precepts. May I, from this time forth, be able to receive and uphold the three sets of precepts: to benefit all sentient beings, to cultivate and gather all wholesome dharmas, and to cultivate and gather all moral disciplines.
