The Profound Yogācāra Meaning of the Diamond Sutra (17)

Subhūti asked again: If good men and good women have aroused the mind of anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi, how should they abide, and how should they subdue their minds? He was asking: after a bodhisattva has aroused the mind to attain buddhahood and broadly benefit sentient beings, how should he settle this mind and subdue it, so that it does not give rise to incorrect initial application and sustained examination (vitarka-vicāra), deliberation, or engagement that is not in accord with reason? The World-Honored One replied: Excellent, excellent, Subhūti! Just as you have said, the Tathāgata indeed skillfully protects and is mindful of the bodhisattvas, and skillfully entrusts the bodhisattvas. Now listen carefully, and I shall explain it to you: after good men and good women have aroused the mind to attain buddhahood, they should abide in this way and subdue their minds in this way. Subhūti then expressed his assent: Yes, World-Honored One, I am very willing to listen to your explanation.
