Subhuti then asked: "When good men and good women develop the mind of Anuttarā Samyaksaṃbodhicitta, how should they abide, and how should they subdue their minds?" He was inquiring about how a bodhisattva, after generating the resolve to attain Buddhahood and broadly benefit sentient beings, should abide in this mind, subdue this mind, and prevent it from giving rise to improper perceptions, thoughts, and irrational mental fabrications. The World-Honored One replied: "Excellent, Subhuti. Just as you have said, the Tathāgata indeed well protects and remembers all bodhisattvas, and well entrusts and instructs all bodhisattvas. Now listen carefully, and I shall explain for you: After good men and good women develop the resolve to attain Buddhahood, they should abide thus and subdue their minds thus." Subhuti then responded: "Yes, World-Honored One, I am most willing to hear your explanation."
