The Profound Meaning of Consciousness-only in the Diamond Sutra (91)

The World-Honored One said: Subhūti, in whatever place this Diamond Sūtra exists — where the vajra-indestructible mind, the tathāgatagarbha, is present — all the devas, humans, and asuras of the world should come to make offerings to this sūtra, to make offerings to the Mahāyāna Tathāgata Buddha. You should know that wherever this sūtra is found, there is a stūpa, there is a solemn place of practice (bodhimaṇḍa). All sentient beings should reverently make offerings there, circumambulating the stūpa with their whole body and mind in homage, and scattering all kinds of flowers and incense upon that place, offering fragrant flowers to the Buddha's stūpa shrine.

Why should offerings be made wherever this sūtra is present? Because this sūtra is the Dharmakāya Buddha (dharma-kāya-buddha), it is the Tathāgata; only by making offerings to this Buddha can one ultimately attain buddhahood. Moreover, the offerings should be made primarily through receiving, upholding, reading, and reciting, and through relying upon it in practice; only thus can one ultimately attain buddhahood. Why is the place where this sūtra is found a bodhimaṇḍa? Because all practice is carried out centered upon this sūtra; all practice is cultivated within this bodhimaṇḍa; all dharmas come from this bodhimaṇḍa; all works of delivering sentient beings are carried out in this bodhimaṇḍa; ultimate buddhahood is also attained in this bodhimaṇḍa; omniscience/wisdom of all aspects (sarvākārajñatā) is perfected in this bodhimaṇḍa; and all buddha-lands are also accomplished in this bodhimaṇḍa. Why should one pay homage and circumambulate this sūtra? Because no sentient being and no dharma can fundamentally depart from this sūtra; even without circumambulating, it is still circumambulation — it cannot be otherwise. Even one who possesses infinite power cannot escape from this sūtra and this stūpa.
