Cetasikas Are the Mental Activities of Citta

The outflow of the seeds of consciousness manifests as the essential nature of the mind-king, which is pure because the seeds of consciousness are pure. The seeds of consciousness possess neither defilement nor the qualities of good or evil. However, when they coalesce with the mental factors and operate through the form of mental factors, mental activities of good, evil, or neutral nature arise. Therefore, the mental activities of the eight consciousnesses as the mind-king and the mental activities of the mental factors are fundamentally one and the same. The mental factors are precisely the mental activities of the mind-king. When the eight consciousnesses as the mind-king operate, they do so in the form of mental factors, particularly in the form of the five universally functioning mental factors.
