The mental attention mental factor arises in both the discernment of all phenomena and the practice of the Buddha Dharma, with the mental attention of the mental faculty being primary, as it induces the mental attention of the six consciousnesses. The mental attention of the mental faculty has prerequisites, requiring specific conditions; different causal conditions lead to different mental attention. When interested, one clings with attachment; when disinterested or averse, one immediately withdraws attention; when something is deemed unimportant, one ceases to engage with it after initial attention.
