20. Does the content of memory belong to the subjectively imagined realm with material basis or the subjectively imagined realm without material basis?

"Material basis" refers to material form (rūpa) composed of the seeds of the four great elements, which has material obstruction. Real seeds of the four great elements constitute the five sense objects, and the subjectively imagined realm that arises in dependence on the five sense objects is called the subjectively imagined realm with material basis, while the subjectively imagined realm unrelated to the five sense objects belongs to the subjectively imagined realm without material basis. What the consciousness accompanied by the five senses (pañca-sahagata-mano-vijñāna) corresponds to is the subjectively imagined realm with material basis, whereas what the solitary consciousness (mano-vijñāna-eka-citta) corresponds to is the subjectively imagined realm without material basis. Memory is, of course, the mind consciousness alone recollecting things that have already passed; the corresponding mental sense-object subjectively imagined realm does not involve the five sense objects, and therefore it is the subjectively imagined realm without material basis.
