I must make good use of the mental faculty of intellect (manas); when consciousness speaks this sentence, the intellect has already made this determination, thus causing consciousness to express it so resolutely. Consciousness seeks to employ the intellect; does the intellect know that consciousness intends to utilize it? Since time immemorial, we have continually been utilizing the intellect, while the intellect likewise employs the tathāgatagarbha (Buddha-nature) and consciousness—merely without mutual awareness. If this were known, that wisdom would be formidable.
