Question: Recently, during my contemplation practice, I observed that for the right view of consciousness to function, or for consciousness to offer suggestions to manas, it occurs only when manas harbors a slight doubt about a matter or begins to question its original viewpoint. The prerequisite for the manifestations learned by consciousness to become active entirely depends on whether manas has a need for them. I wonder if this understanding is correct?
Answer: Consciousness and manas are comparable to two individuals. By comparing them to two people, one can understand consciousness and manas. When manas is precisely in need of advice, offering Him appropriate suggestions for reference will be readily accepted. When manas is very stubborn, consciousness can say anything, yet He is unwilling to listen and even less able to accept it. Of course, reversing the stubbornness of manas still relies on consciousness repeatedly emphasizing and instilling the point. Initially, manas will certainly be unwilling to listen and will not accept it, but over time, He will become less stubborn. At that point, providing Him with further persuasion can then reverse His stance.
