Magnifying glasses, concave/convex lenses, funhouse mirrors, and microscopes operate on the same principle as myopic and presbyopic lenses; they all function to alter the external manifesting form-dust (rūpa-dhātu) conveyed by the Tathāgatagarbha. These altered forms of dust are then transmitted to the gross sense faculties and the supreme sense faculties. In this way, the internal form-dust within the "black box" is formed through the repeated alteration and transformation by multiple layers of mediating factors. Given this, how much authenticity can there be in the form-dust perceived by sentient beings through these lenses? How different is it ultimately from the original, essential state of the external realm? What substantial form can be touched or utilized?
