Do Mind Consciousness and Manas Condition Each Other?

When the faculty and the sense object come into contact, consciousness arises; the three—faculty, sense object, and consciousness—together form contact, and the mind consciousness discerns the realm of mental sense objects, upon which the manas makes the overall decision. Since the mind consciousness and the manas are in mutual contact, they must necessarily be mutually conditioned and mutually aware of each other's minds, so that the Dharma can continue to operate and there can be the creation of bodily, verbal, and mental actions. If the mind consciousness and the manas do not mutually condition each other, then the mind consciousness cannot operate; its arising would serve no purpose, and thereafter the manas would never again decide to let the mind consciousness arise. The very purpose of the mind consciousness's arising is to cooperate with and serve the needs of the manas; of course, as soon as the mind consciousness arises, it knows what the manas wants Him to do, and thus He will spontaneously and consciously act according to the manas's wishes. In between, He inevitably offers some opinions and suggestions, and sometimes even has His own views that are inconsistent with the manas's wishes; then there is inner conflict, and when encountering matters, decisions cannot be made.
