How Manas Implies Consciousness

Question: Once when I was digging for mugwort near a graveyard, I kept feeling someone behind me, but there was actually no one around. Is this the mind faculty or consciousness at work? Is there really someone there or not?

Answer: The mind faculty can perceive people and things that consciousness cannot see, including beings from the spirit realm, but consciousness remains unaware. When the mind faculty wants consciousness to become aware, consciousness may grow suspicious. If consciousness possesses wisdom, it will engage in rational analysis, contemplation, and inference, thereby discerning what is truly occurring.
