The analytical capacity of conscious thought is potent, enabling a profound and subtle discernment of the realm of dharma-dhātu, which readily gives rise to wisdom. The wisdom of consciousness emerges through contact with the environment, deep study, and meticulous contemplation. With this wisdom, it can guide the manas (the mental faculty) out of the muddy swamp, directing it towards the bright path, ultimately leading to the blissful homeland. Without the guidance of consciousness, manas would remain mired in the swamp for a long time, unable to extricate itself, and the pañcaskandha (the five aggregates constituting the sentient being) would perpetually remain within the cycle of birth and death. Therefore, consciousness is exceedingly important.
