Research is work within the domain of the conscious mind, similar to emotional speculation and intellectual understanding. In reality, the practice and realization of the Buddha-dharma is absolutely not a matter of doing research. The Chan patriarchs of the past also most abhorred conjecturing beneath the words (speculation based on concepts), yet nowadays it has all been done openly—conjecturing and emotional speculation are carried out brazenly, without honestly and genuinely doing real practice, while watching Buddhism gradually degenerate—what can be done?
The pace of life in the mundane world has quickened, and fast food is very much in vogue, leaving people's bodies unhealthy. Buddhism has also gone along with the trend, engaging in "fast food" Buddhism; the thinking has become unhealthy, manifesting a kind of pathological state, yet without being aware of it—instead, this pathology is even flaunted as beauty. Buddhist "fast food" arises from the restless, agitated minds of the masses, and its result is even greater restlessness; glib-tongued, smooth-talking types abound.
