Yogācārabhūmi-śāstra: Volume Thirty-Four (87)

The text states: "The holy abidings refer to dwelling in emptiness, dwelling in wishlessness, dwelling in signlessness, and dwelling in the cessation of perception and feeling. The divine abidings refer to dwelling in the various meditative concentrations and all formless abidings. The Brahma abidings refer to dwelling in loving-kindness, dwelling in compassion, dwelling in sympathetic joy, and dwelling in equanimity. Furthermore, at that time, having eradicated all defilements, one attains the ultimate state, is utterly free from defilement, and ultimately realizes the pinnacle of the pure holy life. Having transcended all bonds, having emerged from the deep pit, having crossed the deep chasm, and having subdued Mount Iṣa (conceit), one becomes a true sage. Having demolished the banner of arrogance, one has eradicated the five outflows (sensual desire, hatred, ignorance, conceit, and doubt) and achieved the six factors (morality, concentration, wisdom, liberation, and the knowledge and vision of liberation)."

Explanation: The so-called holy abidings refer to dwelling in emptiness, dwelling in wishlessness, dwelling in signlessness, and dwelling in the cessation of perception and feeling. The so-called divine abidings refer to dwelling in the various states of meditative absorption and all formless realm abidings. The so-called Brahma abidings refer to dwelling in loving-kindness, dwelling in compassion, dwelling in sympathetic joy, and dwelling in equanimity. Furthermore, at the time of eradicating all afflictions, one reaches the ultimate state, becomes completely free from defilement, and ultimately attains the pinnacle of the pure Brahma conduct. Having transcended all critical bonds, having emerged from the deep pit, having crossed the deep chasm, and having subdued the mountain of self-conceit, one becomes a true sage. Having demolished the banner of arrogance, one has eradicated the five outflows (sensual desire, hatred, ignorance, conceit, and doubt) and achieved the six factors of accomplishment (morality, concentration, wisdom, liberation, and the knowledge and vision of liberation).
