It should be known that there are such characteristics herein. An Arahant bhikkhu, with all defilements permanently exhausted, is incapable of deliberately approaching five types of actions: Firstly, he cannot intentionally seek to kill any living being. Secondly, he cannot take what is not given. Thirdly, he cannot engage in impure conduct involving sexual desire. Fourthly, he cannot knowingly speak falsehood. Fifthly, he cannot hoard and indulge in material objects used for sensual gratification. Thus, he cannot falsely attribute suffering and happiness as being created by oneself, created by another, created by both oneself and another, or as arising without cause. Furthermore, he cannot fear any improper topics of speculation. Nor can he, upon seeing clouds, thunder, lightning, calamitous hailstorms, or various frightening phenomena, become deeply terrified or fearful.
