Is the manifestation of a Bodhisattva an ordinary being or a sage? Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva manifests in thirty-two forms; whichever form is suitable to deliver a being, that form appears to teach the Dharma. Whether one is an ordinary being or a sage depends on the root consciousness. Whatever the root consciousness is, that is what the person is. If the root consciousness has not attained enlightenment, the person is an ordinary being. To whatever degree the root consciousness is cultivated and realized, that is the person's fruition level.
