If a person misunderstands a doctrinal principle yet clings tenaciously to their own view as correct, deeming others' views incorrect, how does the Tathagatagarbha record this matter? Does it record it to form karmic seeds based on the misinterpreted content, or does it record it according to the true principle?
The Tathagatagarbha always records to form karmic seeds based on the facts. What are the facts of this matter? The fact is that this person has misunderstood the doctrinal principle; it is not as they believe and have decided. Although the mental factor of deliberation within this person's manas has decided that the doctrinal principle should be thus, the actual fact is such and such. The Tathagatagarbha will therefore record their erroneous thought and viewpoint, forming karmic seeds. When these karmic seeds manifest in future lives, it will result in the karmic retribution of ignorance.
