Lecture Notes on the Sūtra of the Collection of the Father and Son (91)

 The karmic retribution of the ten evil deeds all manifests at the time of death

Original text: 佛言大王。如是如是。愚痴异生。眼见恶色。即生于恼。厌离破坏。毁呰过失。造嗔业行。身业三种。语业四种。意业三种。最初造作。刹那灭谢。是业不依。东西南北。四维上下。中间而住。于死边际。命根灭时。自分业报。皆悉现前。犹如梦觉。念梦中事。

Explanation: The Buddha said: Great King, indeed it is so, you have spoken correctly. When sentient beings of foolish ignorance see evil forms with their eyes, anger and vexation immediately arise in their minds; they give rise to revulsion and the wish to abandon them, wanting to destroy the evil forms and denounce their various faults, thereby creating karmic actions of hatred. These karmic actions are divided into three kinds of bodily karma, four kinds of verbal karma, and three kinds of mental karma. The karmic actions initially created perish instant after instant, and these karmic actions do not abide depending on east, west, south, north, the four intermediate directions, up, down, or the middle. When the end of death arrives and the life faculty perishes, the karmic retribution of one's own deeds all manifests, just like waking from a dream while still recalling the events of the dream.
