Consciousness can critique the manas, but the manas does not critique consciousness. Firstly, the manas is the governing consciousness with decision-making authority; it can completely disregard the decisions and attitudes of consciousness and can completely redirect consciousness. Secondly, the manas lacks the function of language and cannot critique, negate, or persuade consciousness, nor engage in debate with it. If the manas is dissatisfied with the thoughts and views of consciousness, or if consciousness fails to comprehend the thoughts and views of the manas, and consciousness does not submit to the will of the manas, one may experience mental discomfort, agitation, or depression. The manas merely requires the understanding, support, and cooperation of consciousness; this fosters greater steadfastness and inner resilience.
