Yogācārabhūmi-śāstra: Volume 34 (Part 31)

How to observe the impermanent nature of the variability in objects of adornment? It is by observing that various objects of adornment are incomplete at one time, completed at another time, durable at one time, and destroyed at another time. Having seen this, one forms this thought: All conditioned phenomena are indeed impermanent in nature. The rest is as stated before.

How to observe the impermanent nature of the variability in activities such as dance, song, and music? It is by observing presently performed dances, songs, and instrumental music, with their various distinctions in sound and melody, arising at one moment and ceasing at another. Having seen this, one forms this thought: All conditioned phenomena are indeed impermanent in nature.

Explanation: How to observe the impermanent nature of the variability in objects of adornment? One sees that various objects of adornment are not yet made at this moment but are finished at that moment, durable at this moment but scattered and ruined at that moment. After observing these phenomena, one forms this thought: All conditioned phenomena are truly impermanent in nature. How to observe the impermanent nature of the variability in activities such as dance, song, and music? One observes presently performed dances, songs, and instrumental music, with their various distinctions in sound and melody, arising at this moment and ceasing at that moment. After observing these phenomena, one forms this thought: All conditioned phenomena are truly impermanent in nature.
